Christine Pike… Welcome to the home of Christine Pike Bears! As you explore these pages you will discover that I have many interests in the visual arts; from sculpting, to illustration, to jewellery - which is reflected in the range of bears that I produce. |

About Christine Pike |
|
I live by the river, in an old house in a picturesque part of Norfolk, where the sunsets are stunning and I am surrounded by birdsong and beautiful scenery all day long. My interest in teddy bears and dolls began when I was still at school, but back then I never thought I would be making bears of my own one day. I yearned for a beautiful antique bear, but that centre-seam Steiff remained stubbornly out of reach (it still does!). I trained as a restorer so that I could repair antique dolls and teddy bears and that eventually led to my being introduced to the wonderful world of contemporary bear making. The first bear I made was very much in the style of those old Teds I had coveted as a child. Nowadays, although I still make vintage style bears from time to time, my style has changed dramatically: I am fascinated by the art of sculpting and have discovered a method for direct sculpting onto the head of a bear, in order to create noses, eyelids, and even full muzzles. My bears retain a nod to their wild real life cousins, and sometimes have teeth and claws - but always in a perfectly well-mannered way! I have also discovered the delightful, (and addictive!) art of making miniatures and am honoured to have received several awards and nominations for my tiny bears. My work changes all the time and I prefer to make one-of-a-kind pieces and very small editions. I hope you will enjoy looking at the bears on these pages as much as I love making them! Please feel free to e-mail me with any queries, comments, suggestions about this web page or my bears. |
